Senior PHP Developer with Symfony Experience

CarePlanner is a rapidly growing SAAS provider in the home care sector.  Every day, hundreds of agencies use our software to help support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We are looking for an experienced PHP developer to join us at this exciting time, reporting to the Head of Technology. You will form a core part of our redevelopment team, building a modern headless Symfony-based system to gradually replace a legacy PHP codebase. If you love getting you head around somebody else’s code and then making it better, this is the job for you.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of PHP experience (any experience with Symfony or Drupal would be a distinct advantage)
  • Excellent understanding of both OO and procedural PHP
  • Very good understanding of MySQL or another relational database
  • Good working knowledge of Javascript and jQuery
  • Good understanding of vanilla CSS
  • Familiarity with a Linux command line and relevant tools
  • Experience of working with – and refactoring – legacy code
  • Experience of working with enterprise-level or mission-critical applications
  • Experience of working with GIT
  • Experience of working with a ticketing/bug-tracking system
  • Experience of working with, or – even better – developing, APIs
  • Experience of a testing framework, with the ability to talk intelligently about it

We are looking for someone with:

  • A track record of working with complex web applications
  • A product rather than project focus
  • The ability to prioritise multiple, competing demands
  • An understanding of design patterns and when to implement them
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a rigorous approach to coding
  • The ability to translate specs into software, and software problems into ordinary English
  • The desire to join a small company with big ambitions

In return, we can offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • The opportunity to develop your skills
  • The opportunity to work on all parts of the system, from front-end graphics to back-end mathematics
  • A sympathetic approach to holidays, childcare etc.
  • A hi-spec machine with dual monitors and your choice of OS and IDE
  • Beautiful, city-centre Bristol offices.

Salary: £DOE

Holiday: 22 days per annum + bank holidays
